Switching requests plummet in October following supplier market exits

The aftermath of multiple energy supplier exits was fully revealed in October as switches started fell to the lowest levels on record. Only 232,000 switches started last month – 67 percent less than October last year and the fewest in one calendar month since ElectraLink records began in 2012. The previous lowest month for Changes of Supplier (CoS) started was June 2014 with 240,000 switches started.

One million smart meters installed in GB since January

Over one million smart meters have been installed in GB in 2020 so far following yet another month of recovery from a massive drop in installations due to COVID-19, among other troubles for the energy market. Just under 183,000 smart meters were installed in August – 20 percent more than July. August’s figures still show a 17 percent drop against the same month last year, but the gap is closing.
