Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice
The Government Prospectus Response of March 2011 concluded that energy suppliers should develop and follow a license-backed Code of Practice governing the installation of smart meters. This work concluded in the publication by Ofgem of the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice in April 2013.
Since 1 June 2013, all Domestic and Micro-Business suppliers installing compliant smart meters have a licence obligation to comply with a Code of Practice governing the installation of smart meters. The main objectives of the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) are to make sure that the consumer receives a high standard of service throughout the installation process, and knows how to use, and benefit from, the smart metering equipment to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
Further information and latest version of SMICoP can be found on the SMICoP website. Meeting papers, minutes and updates for the SMICoP Governance Board and SMICoP Working Group meetings will be published on the website. All documentation may be freely accessed by website users.
