Project FAIR Phase 1 Report

In September 2022, ElectraLink was successful in its bid to undertake a feasibility study investigating opportunities for an automated, UK-wide LCT register.

In partnership with web developers at Xanda and researchers at the University of Birmingham, ElectraLink launched the Flexibility Asset Information Register (FAIR) project to support BEIS’s AAR project.

Project FAIR is developing a proof-of-concept solution to replace the dispersed, uncoordinated manual registration process of small-scale demand, generation and storage energy assets, also known as LCTs.

The solution comprises a centralised register that automatically acquires data to give a whole system view of LCT penetration and opportunities for optimisation to achieve the NZIP targets. LCTs include electric vehicles and chargers, solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage.

This report outlines the findings of this feasibility study and outlines next steps for phase two of the project.

Appendix 10 - Video 1 - POC API User Access

This video demonstrates the different types of API access for a particular user developed during the proof of concept (POC) for phase 1 project FAIR. The public user is for open data and very restricted. Provider 1 and 2 have more access to data than the public user, and the video highlights how project FAIR can restrict access to different fields. Finally, the super user has full access to all fields. 

Appendix 10 - Video 2 - Query and API

This video demonstrates how queries can crafted and developed to gain insights into the LCT asset data. This was developed during the proof of concept (POC) for phase 1 project FAIR.

Appendix 10 - Video 3 - Query natural language

This video demonstrates how queries can be crafted and used to visualise data using natural language instead of query code.  This was developed during the proof of concept (POC) for phase 1 project FAIR.

Appendix 10 - Video 4 - LCT Detection

This video demonstrates using dummy data for consumption and generation per postcode (MPAN), can be compared with average profiles for properties with an LCT installed – i.e. a heat pump or EV charger and against the CAR to probabilistically identify possible unregistered devices. This was developed during the proof of concept (POC) for phase 1 project FAIR.

Project FAIR - Phase 1 Knowledge Dissemination Webinar

On Wednesday, 25 January 2023, ElectraLink hosted a one-hour webinar to share findings from phase 1 of project FAIR, and its outcomes for the Automatic Asset Registration (AAR) project.

Our team talked through the importance of project FAIR, ElectraLink’s proposed solution design, our approach and our project governance before giving participants the chance to ask any questions to our panel of experts.
