National Revenue Protection Service (NRPS)

ElectraLink has developed a dual fuel National Revenue Protection Service (NRPS) which has proved to increase theft detection and ensure licence compliance. This service has been carefully piloted with trusted partners, HASTE, to provide a nationwide field force, warrant expertise, centralised training and data processing all aimed at providing a streamlined process which promotes safety and profitability. The service delivers a best-in-class, cost-effective, 24/7 field force to attend suspected theft on both electricity and gas networks nationwide.

1

Data administration

2

Data validation

Theft resolution

5

MAP/MOP Services

Our highly skilled staff will process job requests from suppliers of suspected Energy Theft and administer and validate an output report. All requests are investigated in line with the timescales stated within the Theft Code of Practice.

An onsite investigation team will then address any tampers found and will act as necessary, including:

  • Installing a new meter, disconnecting the meter, re-sealing or replacing as required
  • Up to four non-warranted visits
  • Obtaining warrants
  • Dog handlers
  • Locksmith
  • Meter recycling

Each supplier will have access to their own a centralised portal to track the progress of each job, review the findings with clear charges being made based on the outcome of the theft investigation.

Background

Energy theft is caused by a consumer deliberately altering their gas or electricity meter so it no longer accurately records their property usage. It has been estimated that the cost to utility companies, housing associations and landlords is up to £500 million each year. These costs are passed to customers in the form of higher energy charges. Aside from costs, meter tampering is also a serious risk to a consumer’s health and safety.

Since 2016, ElectraLink has managed the Theft Risk Assessment Service (TRAS) on behalf of the energy industry, which aims to increase detection of and reduce theft instances nationwide. We have identified a need for a National Theft Service, which can be offered to all suppliers who do not have nationwide Revenue Protection services.
