Energy switching activity cut by almost 20% in August

Energy supplier switching in Britain dived last month to one of the lowest levels this year across completed and new Change of Supplier (CoS) events. In August, 399,000 switches were completed – a 19 percent dip compared to the same time last year, the lowest August since 2016 and the second lowest month of the year so far.

The GB smart meter installation programme passed the 16-million install mark last month. 223,000 installations took place in July; a 47 percent increase on July last year when Covid-19 was still restricting the pace of the smart meter rollout.

GB energy supplier switching at three-year low in July

Energy supplier switching last month hit a three-year low as 453,000 changes of supplier (CoS) were completed – almost 16 percent less than July last year and the lowest July since 2018. In addition, the six-month rolling average has not hit a new high since summer 2019.
