Dan Hopkinson has been made permanent in his role as CEO of ElectraLink – operators of the GB energy market’s Data Transfer Service (DTS), a wide range of energy data products and code governance support and management. The ElectraLink Board undertook a competitive recruitment process and confirmed Dan’s permanent position after considering internal and external candidates.
ElectraLink chairman Jonathan Purdy said: “I am very pleased to confirm Dan Hopkinson as our new Chief Executive Officer. Dan has successfully led the data analytics and transformation arms of ElectraLink since 2016 and has been Acting CEO since April this year. With his extensive skills and experience in the energy sector, he will ensure that ElectraLink continues to deliver the high standards of performance and customer service for which it is known. Dan is without question the right person to lead ElectraLink forward.”
Dan Hopkinson said: “I am grateful and excited for this opportunity to continue leading ElectraLink. ElectraLink is a great company with fantastic people who are dedicated to excellent service delivery and to innovation. ElectraLink is embarking on a mission to deliver even better value for money services for our customers, and we are enabling access to data to even more innovation projects and business models. Using data to facilitate market innovation is fundamental to the successful transition to net zero and the successful delivery of a competitive retail market through digitisation. At ElectraLink, we see our role as facilitating a data-driven market through the delivery of data, data infrastructure and data governance to all stakeholders. We are passionate about innovation in this area and will support all our customers and stakeholders by providing access to ElectraLink’s skills and experience.
“It is a challenging time for the energy market right now, but challenges are why I am here. I am really enjoying my role and look forward to meeting with new and existing stakeholders as we emerge from the pandemic and double down on net zero plans.”
Dan joined ElectraLink in March 2016 to focus on the development of the Data Transfer Network (DTN) and the growth of associated data services that transformed the company into the ElectraLink we see today. Prior to his role as Acting CEO, as Director of Data and Transformation Dan re-procured and delivered the new cloud-based DTS and led on the transformation of ElectraLink into GB’s Energy Market Data Hub (EMDH), including the development of a range of value-adding data and insight products, and services such as the EMPRIS data analytics platform and the Flexr Minimum Viable Product. These developments have given ElectraLink the next generation data visualisation, sharing and integration capabilities it needs to support the rapid transformation of the energy market as we drive towards net zero.
ElectraLink’s leadership teams have undergone significant change in the past two years. Several new non-executive directors have been appointed to the Board, Jonathan Purdy was appointed as chair and five new directors have joined the Executive Team.
