Dylan Townsend, Senior Governance Services Analyst, Governance Services

I joined ElectraLink in November 2016 as a Governance Services Analyst within the DCUSA team after previously working for an energy company back home in Australia.  Eighteen months later, and I have been promoted to a Senior Analyst and am thoroughly enjoying the challenging, empowering and dynamic environment that I work in.

It is a bit of a cliché but genuinely no day is exactly the same and what I really enjoy is the mix of regular, cyclical high-profile industry meetings that I am responsible for organising and documenting.  I then work the rest of my working week around these major commitments, and that means I feel truly empowered to deliver core important duties while developing skills along the way.

ElectraLink operates a genuinely flexible working policy, so we all enjoy a balance of attending formal meetings one day and then working from home the next when writing up the minutes or preparing reports.  Maintaining contact with our customers and colleagues is again very flexible and using Skype for business especially expedites queries with multiple colleagues rather than using email – which we ban the use of internally on Fridays – encouraging us all to talk more!

The key focus of my role is to organise and document important industry meetings and working groups involved with changes to the DCUSA.  The variety of topics and issues, and the opinions expressed by the different categories of industry participants (i.e. DNOs, IDNOs, Suppliers and Generators), provides a rich learning environment as well as exposure to real debates.  We have access to conversations and decisions that are shaping the future energy landscape. It really is a privilege to play an important part in this process

I also spend some time during a typical day answering general helpdesk queries relating to DCUSA, whether phone, email or web chat and I really enjoy getting involved in bespoke business projects or process improvements either for DCUSA or the wider business.  For example, developing a tracking tool for capturing overlaps in legal text changes arising from change proposals.

There is literally never a dull day and always enough variety and stimulating work to keep me motivated.
