ElectraLink has signed a long-term contract with SMICoP Ltd to support suppliers in meeting their smart meter installation licence obligations. ElectraLink will provide governance management of the Smart Metering Implementation Code of Practice on their behalf.
The Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) is a consumer-focused code of practice that specifies the minimum standards for energy suppliers to follow in relation to the customer-facing aspects of the installation of Smart Metering Systems. The main objectives of the SMICoP are to make sure that the customer receives a high standard of service throughout the installation process, and knows how to use, and benefit from Smart metering equipment to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
Working closely with Energy UK we effectively, efficiently and quickly transitioned the governance management support activities to our Governance Management team. We worked with the SMICoP Governance Board, the SMICoP parties, Ofgem, DECC and Citizens Advice Bureau to identify the interests of each stakeholder to ensure we crafted an efficient service which meets their needs and the requirements of the Code.
By leveraging existing systems, processes, technology and resources we were able to quickly deploy a fully enabled Governance Management service. This allowed us to minimise risk and keep costs down thereby delivering immediate value to industry.
Since service initiation we have commenced delivering a number of strategic initiatives including reaching out to smaller suppliers, establishing relationships with other key components of the smart roll out programme, close working with Smart Energy GB as developing and refining key components of the Code’s compliance regime. These will all ensure the Code is well establish and is a sound platform to ensure suppliers can discharge their licence obligation on commencement of mass roll out.
